This cafe is the place where my (now wife, then girlfriend) and my family had our first drink before we ventured out to show her the beautiful city of Delft. It is called De Oude Jan, which translates to “The Old John” which is the nickname of our old church of Delft. The church by the way is one of the top 10 most leaning buildings in the world.
I had to do this with my Sakura Koi paint kit as I was running low on time and with zero preparation other than finding a good angle using Google Street View to disguise myself as a virtual plein air urban sketcher.
It was done within 55 minutes and it would be roughly the time to take when I would be standing or sitting somewhere and sketch on location.
I would liked it to be more vibrant but applied the colors a bit too hastily. I also don’t like how the Indian ink reflects the light making it look transparent, I might have to scan my drawings next time.
